Baseball Northwest teams will again be set up as: Oregon Metro, Oregon State, Washington Southwest, Washington Metro, Washington Northwest, Washington East, Idaho, and Montana/Wyoming The college recruiting seminar and kickoff meeting will be held on Saturday, August 16th at 5:00 pm at a site to be announced.

Last year’s first one was very popular as over 300 parents and players attended. Information on college baseball recruiting, the professional draft and all information players will need to know in selecting a college to attend. SPARQ testing information will also be presented as well as tournament information. Sunday, August 17th will be the workout day for all players and teams. The workout is specifically designed by college coaches and professional scouts and will be at Wilsonville High School in Wilsonville which is just south of Portland on I-5.

The beautiful complex with back to back artificial turf fields and connected football field provides an excellent facility for this unique day. All players will take infield/outfield, batting practice and do SPARQ testing. Monday, August 18th and Tuesday, August 19th will be round robin pool play in each class tournament (4 games for each team) and Wednesday, August 20th will be class championship and place games. Games will be played at top college and high school fields around the Portland area.

The complete schedule with sites and times will be announced on June 1st on the www.baseballnorthwest.com web site and in the summer Baseball Northwest newspaper. Baseball Northwest’s 32 teams are selected for this tournament from State Prospect Game rosters. Players are invited to the June and July one day Prospect Games by recommendation to Baseball Northwest by professional scouts, college coaches, selected high school coaches, Baseball Northwest personnel and observation from “open” tryout camps.

All high school coaches are sent recommendation forms to nominate players for consideration. Players can nominate themselves for consideration for invitation to State Prospect Games by emailing Baseball Northwest thru the web site but is best for players to attend “open” tryout camps in March and April for evaluation by Baseball Northwest evaluators. Players receiving State Prospect Game invitations in the mail in January and February do not need to attend tryout camps. Invitations for the Northwest Championship Tournament go out to players after each of State Prospect Games.

Over 300 college recruiters and professional scouts attended last year’s event (including State Prospect Games) from all over the country. The 2007 Northwest Championships drew the largest collection of college coaches and professional scouts ever to observe an amateur baseball event in the Northwest.
